Welcome to our home on the Web!

Check out our Calendar of Events page for the latest Food Bank happenings!

With a lot of help from our community:

Thanks to the generosity of our local community, the Food Bank received a record amount of food, gift cards, and monetary donations!! This helped us through the busy holiday season and positioned us to start the new year off with full shelves.

On behalf of our clients, we cannot thank you enough!!

However, our need is ongoing and escalating due to high energy prices, housing costs, and health care expenses. Please check our Needs List for the most current list of items and keep those donations coming!!

A Little Help from our Not-so-little Friends:

Former Penn State football players Larry Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Jay Alford, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, sponsored a signing event at the Johnson family's 5 Twenty 7 store located on College Ave. The event on April 19, 2008 resulted in a $500 donation to the State College Food Bank.

Wegman's Produce Donation Program

Volunteer Sharon Rolley sets out produce from Wegmans for clients. Currently Wegmans donates several hundred pounds of produce each week, which is a real bonus for our clients. Statistics show that many children living in low income families rarely receive fresh fruit or vegetables! Thanks to Wegmans for helping to fill this need.

Wegman's is donating a tractor trailer load of food on June 19 to be shared with the various food pantries in the Centre Region.

Special Announcements:

We'd love to hear your suggestions for food drives and donation events. In addition, we are available to come speak at your place of business or organization to provide additional information to the community about our services and operations. Please call Linda Tataliba at 814-280-3443 to discuss. Our hours for dropping off your donations are:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
  • OR By Appointment (call 814/280-3442)

We also need volunteers to stock shelves, pack bags and do general office duties. If you would like to help us fulfill our mission of providing food to those in need in Centre County, consider helping out during the summer volunteer drought . Thanks to our proximity to Penn State we receive an abundance of great volunteers during Penn State's regular school year. During the summer months, however, we are often short of volunteers. If you would like to join our group of super volunteers, contact Ernest at ernestboyd@hotmail.com , or call the Food Bank office: (814) 234-2310.

Our thanks to everyone for your support. Your ongoing support and donations are the mainstay of our program.

Did You Know?

  • Our volunteers logged a total of 8.058 hours in 2007!!! That's almost 2,000 hours more than 2006!
  • In 2007, we distributed over to 11,000 bags of groceries to over 2,300 people in over 740 households. 42% were children under the age of 18 years and 8% were age 60 or more. See our 2007 Fact Sheet for more details.
  • It is estimated that 60% to 80% of low income households have no books for their children to read. We keep a basket of gently used and new children's books for our clients, but we are running very low on books. Would you or your children like to help us support literacy in our low income households?
  • We receive substantial food donations from departing Penn State students through the Trash to Treasure program. We are grateful for all of the many ways Penn State students and other local groups contribute to our Food Bank

Thank You!

  • Thank you for your continued support!
